AbstractThe region of sub-basin of the San Pedro River located in the city of Boa Vista-PB has suffered with the intensive use of their land in agricultural activities and livestock, which has resulted in the degradation of them because of the practice of burning and deforestation of the native vegetation of the semi-arid northeast. As a result the process of erosion occurs and thus gives the loss of nutrients and soil microorganisms that brings in its sterility, this process is called desertification. Moreover, the erosion, along with the absence of vegetation provides the silting of rivers. The present study made use of a satellite image of the rainy season and techniques of digital processing of images to classify the level of degradation of land under study. Thus were made visits to area under study both in the rainy season as the drought, where they visited seven points which were classified. Later held a reclassification of the images using the software SPRING 4.3.3 and with the observations acquired in the field there was the letter image through the SCARTA 4.3.3. Using the geotechnology you can optimize results and concluded that there was a change in the levels of degradation of land from very low to severe, with seven points from five assessed as severe which shows a high degree of commitment of these lands.
