abstract = "It is here presented an EOF analysis of sea surface temperature
                         (SST)variability in the Brazil-Malvinas Confluence region (30
                         S-52.5 S; 65 W-40 W), between 1989-1993. The study was based on
the Multichannel Sea Surface Temperature (MCSST), weekly mean,
18Km X 18Km, gridded SST data. This data set is distributed by
NODS/JPL, based on the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer
(AVHRR)data transmitted from NOAA satellite platforms. In this
study it is calculated 30 seasonal means (3 months average)images.
This images were statistically analyzed, by expansion in Empirical
Orthogonal Function (EOF)image eigenvectors, and through Maximum
Entropy Spectral Analysis (MEM)of the corresponding Principal
Components time series. The first three EOF's accounted for 68 of
the total variance, followed by semiannual (6 months)and
interannual (4,26 years)signals. The results of this study were
compared with previous analysis published in the literature.",
