| Resumo | This work analyzed the relationship between precipitation and NDVI (normalized difference vegetation index)in the Amazon Basin for the period of January 1982 to December 1990. The precipitation data were obtained from DNAEE (Brazilian National Department of Water and Electrical Energy)from the ground stations available throughout the Amazon and the NDVI data were derived from NOAA-AVHRR data. Low correlation coefficients were observed between NDVI and precipitation in general. Linear and logarithmic relations gave similar results. The response time lag of two months between precipitation and NDVI provided better correlation coefficients. This paper provides new information on the available DNAEE ground stations and discusses the main factors that affect NDVI response. |
