| Resumo | The traffic accidents in Brazil and in the world could be considered as a modern epidemic, because they are causers of losses and physical incapacities, beyond generating high social and economic costs. Looking for to understand and to diagnosis that problem, the integration between the data collection, the use of GIS tools and the spatial analysis is presented as an important subsidy to the area specialists. In this way, this research looked for to present a set of possibilities about what it can be developed through of this tool, using Vitória, Espírito Santo State Capital as a study area, with statistical data of the occurrences happened between January of 2005 and December of 2008, with the objective to indentify the critical places (larger density of occurrences), mainly with fatal victim. Through a GIS, thematic maps were elaborated, with the aid of the statistical occurrence bases, that supplied a clear reading over the location, concentration and behavior of these occurrences, answering the objectives of this research proposed initially and contributing security and road planning. |
