AbstractThis paper discusses the influence of anthropogenic activities on increasing the susceptibility and potential erosion in the catchment area of the laminar watershed of stream Açaizal, located in the municipality of Senador La Rocque, micro region of Imperatriz in the western state of Maranhão. For this analysis we used the methodology proposed by Solomon (1992) and adopted by the IPT. For the application of the methodology we used data on soil erodibility, slope, soil classes and vegetation classes and land use. Two synthesis maps were generated, and the susceptibility of the erosion potential laminar. The basin has predominant slope that varies from 6% to 20%, a gently undulating topography predominantly rolling with some points on average less than 400m. We identified five classes of susceptibility and five classes of potential laminar erosion. The basin has a laminar susceptibility from medium to high to erosion ranging and a high potential because of the classes of land use against the laminar erosion, removal of natural vegetation and the introduction of pastures has contributed to the worsening of this process. Conservation measures must be taken urgently in order to minimize erosion within the watershed and restore the already degraded areas the upper watershed.
