AbstractThe Brazilian savannas include practically the totality of the state of Goiás and Tocantins, west of Minas Gerais and Bahia, east of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul, south of the state of Maranhão and Piauí, and the Federal District. It also has some ramifications in the state of Rondônia, south of Pará and São Paulo. The importance of the savannas is in its high potential for agriculture. Environmental problems increase with the transformations of the land use, reducing therefore the preservation areas. In this study, the sensor MODIS and the products (MOD13Q1 2000 a 2007) are utilized for mosaicking. Re-compositing algorithms are applied (maximum EVI, average EVI and coefficient of variations EVI) for spatial and temporal consistence studies. The IDL Interactive Data Language were utilized, integrated to the ENVI Environment for Visualizing Images. The results were evaluated through a selection of two areas of study: natural vegetation and agriculture (converted). From this selection we generate images for the composite C09, that is, may 2002 and images generated by the algorithms for the years 2000 thru 2007, composite C09. The results show distinct behavior for the natural and converted areas: The EVI maximum and average values have a significant difference from the values of reference for the natural vegetation. The coefficients of variation for the converted area are very high, suggesting that the study must proceeds.
