AbstractThe sub-basin East, section from Hydrographic Region from Guanabara Bay, in Rio de Janeiro, is occupied by the counties of Cachoeiras de Macacu, Tanguá, Itaboraí, São Gonçalo, Guapimirim and Magé. It was, historically aimed by different economic cycles, well known as plantation. Since the sugarcane plantation cycle still into the 17th century, succeeded for coffee plantation and until the middle of XX century by citrus plantation. This region of lowered, limited to the north and the least for sections from Serra do Mar, occupied by dense remaining of Atlantic Forest and the west, already at bay margins, for mangroves, is the region chosen to introduce an important petrochemical pole, Petrochemical Complex of Rio de Janeiro (COMPERJ) with starting forecast in 2012. In this local that the bay receives about 70% of fresh water mainly from the Macacu, Caceribu and Guapiaçu rivers. Part of these waters supplies at least three counties, Niteroi, São Gonçalo and Itaboraí. This research aims to present a synthesis of this scene based on a environmental vision partner of this region from themes crossing as land use and forest cover, slope map and map of existing of Conservation Units.
