| Abstract | The present work shows the effects of urbanization in the Jansen Lagoon basin. In the urbanization process, alterations in the natural environments, such as deforestation, soil waterproofing, land movements (alterations in topography) and fillings of low or flooded lands occur. The alterations in topography besides modifying the natural drainage of waters, causing draining problems, are responsible for a large carrying of soil to the water courses, leading to ecological alterations and an excessive sedimentation. The soil waterproofing causes an increase of the superficial draining and a reduction in the recharge of water table. The vegetation plays an important role in relation to the water sources conservation, regulating the water flows, controlling the superficial draining and providing the natural recharge of water tables. |
