AbstractA field campaign aiming the study of water circulation between Amazon river, Amazon floodplain lakes and wetlands was carried out during 10 days on the Curuai floodplain, near Obidos-Pará state, on July 2002. During this campaign concurrently to the water sampling, 144 reflectance spectra were acquired in the range between 400 and 900 nm using a spectroradiometer with a nominal resolution of 2 nm. The aim of this paper is to identify and characterize the main spectral characteristics of the water masses on Curuai floodplain. In our preliminary analysis the radiometric data revealed to be of great potential not only to identify the water components but also to arise hypothesis on biological processes and its interaction with lake hydrodynamic patterns.
