| Abstract | The objective of this work was to estimate soybean planted areas in municipalities in the north of Paraná State. Landsat TM and ETM images from path 222/row 76 were acquired on 08/01/01 and on 04/02/02 to estimate soybean area in crop year 2000/01 and 2001/02, respectively. The analysis was performed in two parts: a) digital classification using spectral mixture model and segmentation techniques; and b) visual classification to correct errors of digital classification. The image of crop year 2001/02 was used as reference image due to its high quality and appropriate date of acquisition during soybean growing season. However, the municipalities soybean area estimation could not be compared with the official statistics since they are yet to become available. For the crop year 2000/01 it was found that a second image, acquired later in the growing season, is necessary for better classification accuracy especially to include the late planted soybean areas. |
