| Abstract | Abstract. Florianópolis, located on Santa Catarina Island, at 27º 22' S e 27º 50'S, has a huge turistic vocation due to its physical and natural characteristics. The present research studies the rock mountains from Santa Catarina Island, trying to highlight its potential under two important aspects: underground excavation for storage and/or tunnels. Those alternatives for the utilization of the island rock mountains try to join at the same time, the enlargement of new urban spaces and the environmental preservation. In this research they were used like technical tools of remote satellite and GIS (Geographical Information System) that, associated the field data, they resulted in a series of thematic maps related to the physical middle of the Island of Santa Catarina. The analysis of the results obtained in the maps they allowed to arrive the proposal of underground use of the rock mountains of the Island. |
