AbstractIn this paper, an object-oriented analysis methodology is applied, for urban areas classification in high-resolution orbital images. With this aim, Ikonos II data and the eCognition software are used. As the working area, a representative sector of Manaus City (Amazonas State) was selected, possessing typical occurrences of downtown and slum areas. Aiming to work with a 1 m-color composite, the HSI transform was applied for merging multispectral and panchromatic Ikonos bands. After that, the multi-resolution segmentation of the image was performed, obtaining segments at diverse scales of detail. Then, the classes to be identified and their attributes were established, as well as the fuzzy sets associated to the attributes values and the base of fuzzy rules which determines the segments´ pertinence degree to each class. Thus, the image was classified, generating products whose evaluation was performed using aerial photographs. The preliminary results show that through this methodology it is possible to attain a good discrimination among the classes.
