AbstractThe intense and disordered urbanization in the most of Brazilian cities has been causing a dgradation process of the urban environment, lowering the presence of the vegetation element. Therefore, it is necessary to measure and to monitor these areas for the elaboration of an adequate planning that could provide improvement of the environmental quality. The hypotesis of this study is that is possible and adequate (a) to present the landscape transformation by means of comparing different scenarios using two vegetation indices: NDVI and IVM and (b) to identify which between them is the instrument of better efficiency and effectiveness. The study of case was the green areas in the City of Curitiba-PR, in a Temporal analysis of 13 years. The data had been processed in a System of Geographic Information. Had been gotten as a result scenes made from the mappings of the vegetation in different dates, values of the NDVI e IVM indices and the taxes of loss or increase of the vegetal covering, indicated by these indices.
