AbstractTouristic planning integrates itself with other broad planning processes, targeting to promote economic, social and environmental improvements to the zone, region or country involved through an adequate development of touristic activities. Socio-environmental mapping is an efficient tool for the monitoring process and for development evaluation in such territories. This study presents an application of an specific methodology on the township of Itapema (SC), which boasts an accelerated social and spatial growth in the last decade due to the expansion of touristic activities. The chosen methodology proved to be adequate to such procedures, showing territorial information that was adequate for sustentable planning and management of a region. The chosen methodology is also flexible enough to be applied in other regions and adaptable to particular dynamics.
