%X The nature of the spectral interaction between radiant energy and the Earth's surface components is very important for the development of Remote Sensing techniques. One of the most effective ways to understand those interactions is through the measurement and analysis of the spectral reflectance of those components. The use of field ground reflectance data for the calibration of satellite imagery can be more accurate if the measurements are done using a radiometer whose field of view has similar dimensions to that of the satellite imaging system. Many modem spectral radiometers, based upon CCD technology, have made the field reflectance measurements easier owing to their portability, speed of data acquisition and reliability. To take advantage of these new capabilities and to fulfill the geometric and spectral requirements of the ground data, the Laboratory for Radiometry of the National Institute of Space Research (INPE/BRAZIL), developed the Airborne Data Acquisition System (SADA), that uses two SPECTRON SE-590 radiometers and an helicopter as its operational platform. The SADA system is able to collect ground reflectance spectra at high sampling rates and over extensive or unaccessible targets such as water bodies and forests. The first operational test of the system was carried out on the Barra Bonita reservoir at the São Paulo State. In this experiment the SADA was used for the measurement of the bidirectional spectral reflectance factors of the different water masses of the reservoir. The results of this test showed that the system has an excellent operational flight performance and is very effective for the quick collection of field reflectance data over this kind of target.
